Your Guide to Mirfield Show 2016

The Mirfield Show 2016 is less than one week away. An award winning day out for families all across Yorkshire attracting thousands of visitors each year. Taking place on Sunday 21st August at the Mirfield Showground here’s your guide to this year’s show.

Karen Bullivant, Chairperson comments: “The final preparations are now underway as show day fast approaches and the marquees will be going up soon. This year’s show promises to be colourful and entertaining as we embrace the carnival spirit with a host of new attractions and competitions which I can’t wait to see.

“I would like to say a massive thank you to all of our sponsors and volunteers who make this show possible. A lot of time and effort goes into planning the show and volunteers will be on site from Friday morning on show week to ensure everything is ready in time.

“I am looking forward to a fantastic day and look forward to seeing everyone there.”

Show Opener

We are delighted to reveal that this year’s show will be opened by BBC Weather Presenter Paul Hudson along with special guests the Mayor of Mirfield Cllr Sean Guy and Derek Highe from the Robin Royd Lights.

This year’s show will embrace the Olympic and carnival theme with colourful and creative dancers, stilt walkers towering above the crowd and Olympic themed competitions and classes and children’s games.

Main ring attractions

First up on show day will be the Horse & Pony Show from 8.30am attracting riders from all over the region. There are rosettes for all the winners plus the Best in Show.

The sky’s the limit as the Red Devils Parachute Regiment will wow the crowd with their amazing aerobatic displays as they swoop into the showground at around 1.30pm. The Red Devils perform over 60 spectacular displays each year across the UK recently performing at V Festival and Twickenham during an England vs Ireland match. The team is made up of 12 serving soldiers who will happily meet and chat with spectators after the display.

Blackrock llamas are the UK’s first and only llama agility display team! Coming all the way from the outskirts of the Snowdonia National Park in Wales, the Blackrock Llama Centre are bringing these magnificent creatures to the Mirfield Show for the first time. Featured on ITV’s Weekend Escapes with Warwick Davis, the Blackrock Llama Centre are passionate about llamas and hope to demonstrate the natural beauty and grace of these creatures in their main ring show at 12.30pm and 3.30pm. Come along and see the wonderful relationship between the llamas and their trainers – discover the gentle majesty of these animals in our family friendly adventure.

Closing this year’s show in the main ring will be the popular tug-of-war. Will the Mirfield Stags retain their 2015 title in this epic battle?

Mirf’fest Music Stage

Back by popular demand for the third year, the Mirf’fest music stage in association with The Pulse will host a selection of sole performers and bands covering folk to pop punk. Performers include; Jess Huxham, Alexandra Carlos, Jasmine Wilkinson, The Final Throes, Phoenix, Elastic Waste and Yeli Williams.

Competitions Galore

There will be a wide range of competitions and classes from baking, to flower and veg, to pigeons and poultry. Judging takes place in the morning with tents opening for entries from 7.30am and will be open to the public after the judging has competed usually around midday.

The Bonny Baby Show will take place at 3pm all babies must be registered for entry by 2.30pm at the Information Point. There are 3 classes this year: 0 to 1 year olds, 1 to 2 and 2 to 3 years. Every child will receive a complimentary photo session and photographic gift, and winners from the three categories will each receive a 16×12 inch framed photograph of their child.

Fun Dog Show will take place in the Crowlees school grounds from 12pm. Among other classes, the judges will be looking for the canine fiend with the waggiest tail, most appealing eyes and the Best in Show Champion.

A variety of children’s competitions taking place throughout the day including: fancy dress, Olympic themed races, creative writing, arts & crafts and scrarecrows.

Stalls

Visitors can browse a wide range of stalls carefully selected selling everything from food, to jewellery and toys. The Made in Yorkshire Tent will take pride of place featuring a host of designers and products from Yorkshire.

Free parking & free buses

Getting to the show couldn’t be easier. There is a free bus every 30 minutes from the show ground to pick up and drop off visitors around Mirfield. Look out for clearly marked bus stops with timetables around Mirfield.

There will be a free park and ride from Castle Hall with a shuttle bus with disabled access going to and from the show ground.

Tickets

The Mirfield Shoe remains a great value day out for all the family. Free entry for all children under 16 and £5 per adult on the day.
