Mirfield Agricultural Show is excited to reveal this year’s show will be opened by the inspirational Leila Higgins from Timestep Community Dance

Local rugby star Danny Maun to open Mirfield Show with special guest Leila HigginsTimestep Community Dance, based in Heckmondwike, provide free and subsidised dance and movement classes for young people and adults with a disability or learning difficulties.

Six-year-old Leila was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy following a stroke when she was just a few weeks old and her mum was advised by doctors she would never be able to walk. Leila who loves dancing was not going to let that stop her. She takes part in weekly  group’s cheer sessions and private pilate classes and she hopes to do group ballet in the future.

Jonathan Evans, Mirfield Show Chairperson comments; “We are delighted Leila and her family will be opening this year’s show where we are celebrating our heavy woolen heritage. We are also pleased to support Timestep Community Dance Group and were inspired by Leila’s determination and spirit to dance!  Leila along with her mum will be opening the Mirfield Show at midday on Sunday 19th August in the main ring.”

Timestep Community Dance was set up as a charity in January 2018 to raise funds so local youngsters and adults with a disability or learning difficulties can receive free and subsidised one-to-one movement, Pilates and dance sessions.
