The Mirfield Show committee are putting the final preparations to this year’s Mirfield Show which will be on Sunday 17th August at the Showground, Huddersfield Road, Mirfield. Make sure to put the date in your diary!
Our theme this year is “Let’s Celebrate!” and what better year to do it as it’s our 80th anniversary! We have lots of exciting activities and entertainment planned for you so come down and enjoy the fun!
Again this year, we need to say a HUGE thank you to our sponsors. Without them we couldn’t do what we do. This year our main sponsor in the Platinum category is Network Rail/Transpennine Route Upgrade (www.thetrupgrade.co.uk) and our 2 Gold sponsors are:
- JayBe Ltd of Dewsbury (www.jaybe.com) and
- GenR8 of Mirfield (www.genr8power.co.uk)
A word from our Chairman, Jonathan Evans “We are really looking forward to seeing everyone on Showday. There is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes, all year round, and although we are quite a big committee, we all have our separate jobs and these all come together to put on the Show as you know it. We are always looking for volunteers – either just for Show weekend or to help us with the planning during the year. If it’s something that you would like to consider, just send us a message at volunteer@mirfieldshow.com or on our contact us link via the website www.mirfieldshow.com. Why not join us – we are a friendly bunch and we have a lot of fun!”
Our main field will be packed again this year (see further down for the main ring event running order) and will feature, amongst others, inflatables, Pinxton’s Puppet show, Wise Old Owls, the countryside police, the parachute regiment, Holme Valley Mountain Rescue and our local fire engine. You might also run into our stilt walkers (but try not to!) as they parade around the field providing great photo opportunities.
The Crowlees field will be the venue for the Grange Moor Brass Band and displays by Mirfield Martial Arts. Something for everyone!
Our live music stage starts a little earlier this year as we have so many great up and coming artists to bring you. The first set will be at 9.20am and the last at 3.40pm. To find out full details of all acts and timings, visit our website.
We all love our furry show visitors and this year we have Joe’s Mobile Farm which includes rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens and ducks to name a few. We also have the NCM pit ponies – small but mighty and Billy Soaps Gruff bringing their ever popular goat milk products. Our reptiles, invertebrates, mammals and bugs are always a big hit so we brought them back again this year. You might even get a chance to see a chick hatch in our small livestock area if you’re lucky and have a go at the ancient craft of skep making (or just marvel at our expert!).
Our Kid’s Zone is always popular and we’ve listened to your feedback and made it bigger and better this year. The old favourites of the football shoot and the soft play will be here again this year together with bubbles and circus skills workshops, story book corner, Poppins Presents and our early years hub. We also have a very special event where you can come and meet Elsa.
Made in Yorkshire will be hosting the craft marquee featuring Yorkshire made products as well as artisan products too. We do our best to showcase and support local businesses and this year Mirfield Makers will have a large presence with at least 10 stalls to display the talents of our local artists and craftspeople. Due to the huge success of last year, we’re also bringing back Natasha Jackson ceramics and the Mindful Maker. Both providing great opportunities to get stuck in and have some fun!
Every year we try to vary our “high street” of stalls on the field and this year is no different. If it’s a gooey luscious muffin you’re after or treats for your pooch, we’ve got you covered! Take a browse and pick up a few souvenirs of what;s bound to be a great day. You will probably find many of our local charitable organisations have a stall too as for them the day is very important for raising their profile and fundraising and it gives you an opportunity to show your support.
The main ring will start off as always with the horse and pony show and we will keep you entertained throughout the day. Dancing displays will be performed by members of Katie Philpott School of Dance and Suttons SOPA and we’ll have the ATC marching band showing off their skills.
Little Nippers are one of our main ring attractions this year. Watch as they race over obstacles at full speed chasing the electric lure. They offer a fast, action-packed demonstration with an informative and humorous commentary. Another fascinating attraction is the falconry display. Marvel at the beauty of these magnificent birds.
As it’s our 80th we couldn’t let it pass without something special and we’re thrilled to let you know that (weather permitting) we have a fabulous RAF fly past scheduled. We can’t be sure of timings yet but as soon as we know, you will too! We also have an extra special guest in the main ring at 12.10pm. Make sure you’re there to find out who!
The day will finish off with a special end of Show, Abba tribute band. Time to get those dancing shoes on and celebrate, celebrate, celebrate!
As always there will be a bar and plenty of opportunities to buy delicious food – or maybe just bring your own picnic.
