This year’s competition is for writing about food and farming, the natural environment, challenges, working hard to keep us all fed despite danger and difficulties, make do and mend, recycling and upcycling, and all sorts of writing that the judge likes. The choice is yours!

And we have new picture classes for younger creatives!

Key things you could include are farming, digging for victory or self-sufficiency, countryside creatures, environmental matters, cooking in adversity, recycling and upcycling, and atmospheric writing.

The only limit is your imagination!

Classes:

Please tell us in your email which class you are entering!

Class 1 – Open to all – open to all adults and young people from the age of 15 – a story of no more than 2800 words or a poem of no more than 40 lines that revolves around agriculture or any other food production theme.

Class 2 – writers 13 to 14 years of age – a story of no more than 1600 words or a poem of no more than 30 lines.

Class 3 – writers 11 to 12 years of age – a story of no more than 1200 words or a poem of no more than 25 lines.

Class 4 – writers 9 to 10 years of age – a story of no more than 800 words or a poem of no more than 20 lines. This may include a picture that helps to tell the story.

Class 5 – writers up to 8 years of age – a story of no more than 600 words or a poem of no more than 16 lines. This may include a picture that helps to tell the story.

Class 6 – creatives 5 to 6 years of age – a picture in any medium, based around any part of the story “Good work”

Class 7 – creatives 4 years of age and younger – a picture in any medium, based around any part of the story  “Good work”, (Story intended to be read to the entrant.)

Class 8 – all creatives up to 6 years of age – a picture that tells a story created by the artist and that is accurately written down by someone else and that is submitted with the picture.
