🌱🌾🌿🌻Good morning MIRFIELD SHOW SPROUTS!! It's the weekend! With lots of sunshine and showers forecast, it's a great time for planting and growing. Westfields Nursery is open so don't forget to pop in and check your seeds!🌱🌾🌿🌻
Here's some handy advice for your plants.
🌻🌿🌾🌱Advice for looking after your sunflower:🌱🌾🌿🌻
Keep them inside till you have a stem with 4 leaves on. These will be sets of 2.
The pot is deep enough to keep them in there until you can see the roots coming out of the bottom. This will create less damage to the roots when you repot/plant out the seeds.
Once the weather gets a little better and you have a strong stem with roots showing they can either go in a bigger pot or straight into the ground.
Then just keep It watered and it will do the rest.
Look at the soil daily. If it looks a little dry give them some water. I put my tubs on a plate with an absorbent paper towel underneath the pot so any excess water from the soil will run through and sit in the paper towel. The seed Will start pulling water up from the bottom which will make stronger roots. I keep the paper towel wet.
Keep us posted with your pictures, from Tabitha (Chief Sprout Officer) 🌱🌾🌿🌻

“Today the Mirfield community paid tribute to one of our most respected residents, Nancy Hey, who recently passed away.
She was a local business woman and keen volunteer for many years on the Mirfield Agricultural Show committee.
Nancy, along with her late husband Ken, was involved with Mirfield Show from the very beginning. They were both key people in the development of the popular one day Mirfield event.
Whilst Ken looked after the Flower and Vegetable competitions, Nancy was in charge of Stall bookings and the Craft stall bookings. And, as important committee members, they were also involved in the many decisions that need to be taken to host such an event.
Although Nancy and Ken retired from the organising committee some time ago, the foundations laid down by them in the past are still with us today. Their legacy lives on.
Our thoughts are with Nancy’s family at this time.”
Committee member and past Chairman.
