“Today the Mirfield community paid tribute to one of our most respected residents, Nancy Hey, who recently passed away.
She was a local business woman and keen volunteer for many years on the Mirfield Agricultural Show committee.
Nancy, along with her late husband Ken, was involved with Mirfield Show from the very beginning. They were both key people in the development of the popular one day Mirfield event.
Whilst Ken looked after the Flower and Vegetable competitions, Nancy was in charge of Stall bookings and the Craft stall bookings. And, as important committee members, they were also involved in the many decisions that need to be taken to host such an event.
Although Nancy and Ken retired from the organising committee some time ago, the foundations laid down by them in the past are still with us today. Their legacy lives on.
Our thoughts are with Nancy’s family at this time.”
Committee member and past Chairman.
This year's Betty Taylor Mens Trophy Recipe is the Mary Berry Lemon Meringue Pie. The art is in the smoothness of the curd filling and mound of crisp, yet deliciously chewy, baked, fluffy white meringue on top which will put our judges tastebuds to the test! With a prize of £50, a trophy and the prestigious Mirfield Show bake off apron up for grabs, what is there to lose!

It's a wrap! Yes, we have finalised our competitions schedule for the 2019 show and that is now on it's way to the printers and will be available in the coming weeks. We have a new theme this year which is transport and have included this in some of the classes. There are a few new classes too. By popular demand we have a confectionery class in the domestics section and this year's Betty Taylor Men's recipe challenge will be a Lemon Meringue Pie. In Horticulture there are some new classes as well as the firm favourites. We are encouraging home growers too. How about bringing in a vase of your garden flowers and showing them in the marquee? You might even win a prize! Keep checking in for updates 🌞🌱🌹🥧🍰
Anyone remember the days of putting together a home made Go-Kart and bombing around the neighbourhood woods, streets and fields? Well as part of our TRANSPORT theme for the 2019 show, we are planning a Family Go-Kart Challenge! We are asking you to make your kart and bring it on show day where it will be judged and then you can enter it into the Grand Race? Interested? Let us have your feedback and we will update you. No Engines allowed!
